Olly wanted a photography website design to show off his photos. He really liked the mercury theme which comes with a number of features built-in for photographers. It was a bit tricky, but I managed to create a child theme to accommodate his many customisation requirements and added media boxes functionality onto the homepage to put all the images front and centre.
Olly wanted a sticky menu, i.e. one that stays at the top of the page as the user scrolls down. But he wanted it to disappear as the user scrolled down the page, and then reappear if the user should scroll back up the page. I used jQuery to check every quarter of a second if the user was scrolling and then to add and remove CSS classes as the user scrolls up and down. It was then a simple process of using CSS animations tied to the classes to fade the menu in and out.
