I was commissioned to create a logo and business card design for Freya White, a Leeds-based musician who plays and teaches woodwind. I was given a very specific brief to design a tree blowing in the wind. The logo portrays a play on the words ‘wood’ and ‘wind’ in woodwind. It shows a tree (wood) with autumnal coloured leaves being blown (wind) off it’s branches.
I created this image for the client which incorporates a woodwind instrument forming part of the tree trunk:
Initially I created three designs based on this image and after some refinements, the client selected the one they prefered, which I worked up to the final version above.
I used a font that echoes the italic font used in musical annotation. The client had very clear ideas and was very pleased with my business card design. I suggested the cards should be printed with a velvet lamination for a real luxury feel which the client was delighted with.
